Tooth enamel is the hard outer surface layer of teeth that serves to protect against tooth decay. Could dental fillings(white not silver amalgam) protect against tooth decay? How many months will it last? Thanks.

That's what sealants are for. Hygienist/dentist lately have been recommending ACT flouride oral rinse to build enamel and protect against cavities. I'm using it twice daily.

did you mean dental fillings(white not silver amalgam) don't protect against tooth decay?

No, just because a tooth has a filling does not protect it from further decay. You can't get a cavity in a filling itself but you can get one under it, next to it etc.....they don't last forever unfortunately, eventually they need replaced. And if you don't correct whatever caused the decay in the first place or change your oral health habits, the process will continue despite the filling.

thank you very much
