Hi all,

Just got my dental implant crown screwed on on the 15th July. The first day, I experienced some tightness between the crown and my premolar. The next day, the tightness is gone, and everything was fine. However, on the 3rd day evening time, I experienced some pain whenever I'm eating. It's not that painful but noticeable. I tried using my finger to press down in the implant crown but it doesn't hurt that way but it does hurts a little whenever I chew food with it.

I currently have a temporary filling on for this implant crown, the dentist will fill it with composite filling on my next visit if everything is okay with the crown.

Anyone ever experience the same thing? Not sure what's going on.

I would ask the dentist to check it out. I had a lot of little twinges and such when I first had my implant crown placed. The dentist would check it and make sure it was not loose. I think some of it was “phantom” pain for me as I had so much pain for so long previously and wasn’t used to chewing on that area. It did go away. It is always better to have it checked out though.

@MountainMama hi, thanks for the reply. The pain is gone 😊 horray!

@MountainMama but I'm having weird pain recently. I think it's coming from the tooth in front of the implant. It hurts whenever I'm chew food on it. It's sensitive to cold as well. Not too sure if that's a cracked tooth or just tooth sensitivity. Will a tooth sensitivity cause zing kinda of pain when eating?

I have one that does that and the dentist has assured me that it is fine. It has been like that for almost three years

@MountainMama does yours hurt whenever you eat? It's so annoying 😭 it doesn't hurt when I press or tap on the tooth. I don't know how to even eat properly without feeling that zing pain.

Yes, mine doesn’t hurt when I tap or press it either. Certain foods hurt more than others, but usually it is with harder things.

@MountainMama I just came back from the dentist. I did a bite test and felt the pain on one of the cusp of my premolar. My dentist diagnosed it as crack. She shaved down the height of my premolar and told me to monitor it to see if that'll help. If it get more and more pain, I'll got to go back and get a crown :') My nightmare came true.

I am so sorry to hear that. Hopefully it won’t get worse. 😞

@MountainMama hopefully 😔 anyway, one last question. Do you feel any pressure when you bite into hard food with your implant?

I accidentally bite on something hard today while eating, I can feel the pressure all the way down from my implant to the bone. No pain, the pressure doesn't last more than a min. I'm just curious as I know heard that implant doesn't have any nerve, so I'm not too sure why there'll be feeling.

For natural tooth, we have shock absorber which is our ligament, I believe.

I have had weird sensations like that as well. I had wondered if the sensation was in the gums. I have also had weird feelings like the implant was loose, even though it isn’t. I have had it checked.
