I started going to the dentist January 2023.
I've had check ups every 3 months but everytime I have a filling it seems to fall out so I've just been getting the same fillings put back in and no other treatment even though I need other fillings.
Has anybody had a similar experience? Should I move dentist?
I have a few teeth that need removing and 1 that needs a root canal I was told I'd need to go private for in order to save the tooth.
However, I can't currently have the extraction as I'm waiting for a referral to cardiology due to having some heart problems.
It's just getting quite stressful at the minute as I feel like my other teeth can only be getting worse.
I can't afford all private treatment due to being a student but I've been looking at getting the root canal done privately.
Has anyone mixed NHS and private treatment? Do they do the treatment which you ask for?

Hi, fillings that keep falling out doesn't sound right, and from what you've said in the past, it sounds like you'd be much better off finding someone else (not taking x-rays, having bad patient reviews on Google, etc.). If there are no other dentists taking on NHS patients in your area, you could try writing a letter of complaint to the dental practice outlining your concerns about the lack of x-rays and the fillings which keep falling out, and explain that you have lost trust in your current dentist and ask if they can switch you to the male dentist who gets more positive reviews.

Or depending on where you live, your GP may be able to refer you to the community dental service, on the grounds of both your medical condition and your anxiety about dental treatment.

For root canal treatment, it might be worth getting an endodontist (root canal specialist) to do it, especially if it's a back tooth. Mixing NHS and private treatment is definitely possible, but you'll want a skilled dentist for either, and it doesn't sound as if your current dentist fits the bill!

We do have a community dental service which is in my doctors which would be quite helpful. Do you think if I emailed my dentist I could get a referral that way? Everytime I have treatment I feel quite ill the day after, im not sure if its anxiety or my medical condition or a mix or both but it definitely isn't helpful.
Thank you so much :)

You could either get a referral from your dentist, or if they’re unhelpful, in some areas you can be referred by your GP and other health professionals. Maybe see if your local community dental service has a website that explains what services they offer, and how their referral process works? It seems to vary a lot from area to area!

Thank you anyway :)
