Dentures and Contact Sports

This is probably a stupid question.. but I was wondering If I need to take my dentures out and put a gum sheild in for contact sports, or if I could get my dentist to make a gum sheild to go over hte top of htem?

I'm not so keen on taking them out in front of people, you see!

I've heard of mouth guards being fitted over dentures, it probably depends on how stable your denture is.
