Detour from my own plan and thoughts.. two retreatments for root canals. A new challenge

So , I was wanting to finish up some dental work with my flex plan and had enough for about 2 crowns which were chipped and bugging me.. I had my own little plan in my head.. welll.. I went to my dentist this last week and he was very kind and thorough in explaining everything and that we could do the one crown but really the next two things I should do were these two retreatments. Well.. and he couldn't do them, he doesn't do retreats.. which. I totally respect his thoughts but.. hard news to think of going to a specialist.. the last time I tried that a few years ago I just never went back.. I made several appts , kept cancelleling and then never did get it done finally having to pull it.. so... thinking of this for a moment not sure what to think.. but I knew my dentist always has my best interest at heart. so..

Processing it I 've been thinking.. that was then,,several years ago, I was scared and I didn't face my fears but now I'm at a point where I know I want to do the right thing and not lose my teeth. No procrastination. so I'm going to face it courageously and believe that the specialist will take good care of me.( remind me the day of lol) . and just start a new story on specialists and retreatments. I'm going in for a consult next Friday. I really need good bed side manner.. that helps me a lot through this process. so hoping that works to be true. taking a huge step of faith on this.

Any words of encouragement on retreats? I've had plenty of root canals all from dentists I knew no retreatments yet.

I don’t have any specific dental advice, but I always encourage you to take the courageous choice.

Good luck, and keep us posted.

Thanks DG6300. you are always an encouragement. Going to remind myself I'll I'm learning about stepping out of my comfort zone and my favorite quote "Life begins at the end of your comfort zone." well.. my health, and everyones health here is worth doing that! May be a moment or time of discomfort or unknowns. but thats ok..

Let the adventure begin.

This is very strong and courageous. There is always the next challenge when it comes to treatments and there are roadblocks. Sounds like you came across one but do your best to face it with courage.
My advice as always would be: take your time, make sure to talk to the dentist and discuss your fears and if things do not feel right, find a different dentist.

:) Thank you Enarete.. one step at a time.. and yes. always making sure to feel that we are comfortable and at ease enough to proceed even with one or two time specialists, there really are some caring people out there wanting to help us when we do communicate. Thankful to have a regular dentist I do fully trust !

Dg, Thanks for checking..

I have a consult set up for Friday with an endo that has very good reviews on a number of fronts.. so . hoping it turns out to be ok. I do really appreciate the honesty and integrity of my dentist in this and trust he is doing this for my best interest , but it is difficult to trust new providers with the little things . Thankfully I'm in a better place and hoping it will be an opportunity to save my teeth and at the same time challenge myself and have an opportunity to write a good testimony.. Cross my fingers :p. Keeping it positive. Sometimes when we go out of our own comfort level and do new maybe hard experiences , challenge ourselves, we can find it a blessing and really learn from it. This is what I'm hoping to take out of it as well as saving my teeth :)

So I actually got a call from the office after the endo ended up looking at my xrays and talked to my dental office they decided I could skip the consult if I'd like and it was very straighforward it was needed and what to do, so they offered for me to go in tomorrow morning and just get it done.

So...here I go.. in 7 more hours I embark on a new brave adventure. :).. See you all the other side.

You’ll do great. Keep us posted.

I would wish you luck, but you don’t need it: you have courage, which is even better.

Re: Detour from my own plan and thoughts.. two retreatments for root canals. A new challenge

[SUP]Thank you so much DG6300!!

I am going to write up on another post I put up on going to endo.. but..I have found my Endo !! Very happy with the Dr I found , he was very pleasant , pain free and kind.. I almost literally could have fallen asleep during the procedure it was so smooth. :). My numbing is just wearing off. Said I should just do Ibuprophen and Tylenol alternating and should be fine for pain. No complications, no problems. so.. I'm considering this a huge success.

One thing I can encourage anyone is look for someone with good reviews working with nervous patient.. this guy had them! and read the office staff and how they treat you... this place was great on the phone and basically the whole way around so I felt at ease even walking in the door.. But Also as my dentist encouraged me to really communicate my fears and what he does to help me, I did that and it really relieved my fears before I even started .

Very happy to be done with one.. now I do have another one to do.. which is just a finanical issue but as soon as I have it situationed I'd go back there anyday to do my root canals.

:)
