Two years ago I got a root canal on a premolar that had broken due to decay. I just broke the tooth. It had a white composite filling and I'm not sure how much additional tooth broke off and how much was filling. I have an appointment on Monday but I'm freaking out I'm going to need it pulled. I'm kicking myself for not getting a crown. I had an awful experience getting my wisdom teeth removed and extraction terrifies me.

it looks like I'm missing half the tooth (it's in the back of the tooth not visible from the front). I'm guessing bc there is still a lot of structure left but I think that a lot of it is composite filling if that makes sense? Do these always have to be extracted or is there an option for a post and buildup or something like that?

i have other work I need done too. I'm so scared and I wish I could get in sooner!!

Hi :welcome: to the forum.

I had a quarter of a back tooth broken off some years ago and they built it back up and put a crown on it, so yes there is hope that they may be able to do something so you can keep the tooth :fingerscrossed::fingerscrossed::fingerscrossed:

Wisdom teeth can be more difficult to remove but only because of the position of them in the mouth, if this tooth that you have broken needs removing it should be okay. Try not to worry which is hard I know, but once you know what the dentist advises at least you will know what you are facing. At least you aren't in pain and things will be fine until Monday, just take it easy and chew on the other side of your mouth. After eating rinse your mouth and keep it clean around the broken tooth area.

Good luck :clover::clover::clover: I hope you get to keep your tooth. Let us know how you get on please :butterfly:

Well I get to keep that tooth. Yay! I am getting it crowned next week. However I might lose a different tooth lol. I finally went to the dentist after years and I was afraid I might lose three teeth. But looks like just one possibly although he will try to salvage it. No root canals thankfully but I need lotsof crowns (a total of five, if I get to keep the possible extraction). Three root canals I never had crowned and two very large 20 year old fillings where the tooth is cracking. I am depressed at the financial aspect as dental insurance caps at $1750 but I feel good about getting this under control. I wish I would've gone last month to get started before the year rolled over but we had a baby the end of November and I couldn't get my head to where it needed to be to I visit my most hated place until this week. I'm super nervous about the possible extraction though that is my bigges fear!

Hi the important thing is that you are going now and things aren't too bad. Nothing that can't be fixed. Try not to get too stressed about the extraction. They will make sure you are totally numb, if you aren't sure they can test it to make sure for you. They will take a very short time preparing the tooth then before you know it it will be out. I bet you don't even know before they tell you "there it is done and gone".

You won't feel anything, I found the stress and worry I felt beforehand was the worst thing. I was kicking myself after for giving myself such a hard time. But I floated on air leaving the dentist office and I was whooooooohooooooing myself all the way home. I felt like a kid and very brave, I wanted a badge and a gold star for doing it. I gave myself a massive pat on the back.

All the best to you and congrats on having your new baby, WELL do tell boy/girl :rofl::rofl: only kidding you don't have to if you don't want to :jump::jump::jump::jump::jump::welldone::butterfly:

I am more afraid of the aftermath then the actual extraction. I am a vain person believe it or not and don't want to be missing a tooth! An implant would be a financial burden on our family but I also don't want to go without a tooth. Ugh!!! Also afraid of the recovery from extraction more than the act itself.

Well went today and got the broken tooth canal tooth and the one next two it prepped and fitted with temporary crowns. My gums are pretty sore as they said they would be... But the temps look good and I'm scheduled to go back in three weeks for the permanents. Now just four cavities, two more crowns and my possible crown:extraction to go. Ugh!

Keep going you will get there :jump::jump::jump::respect::respect::respect: Good luck :thumbsup!::butterfly:
