I have an appt. to replace a molar crown on Thursday, there is a space between the gum and my crown, i only had it done 5 years ago and thought i wouldn't need it replaced for many years, i have no dental coverage so it's going to cost me $1400 this time! I am not happy that i have to go through this process again, worried most about getting the old one off, but i also don't want to get an infection or need a root canal too (more money/pain). Is there not a filling they can place in this space instead of me going through all this cost and time in the dental chair? I can do a filling, i'm just not sure i can go through with this all again soo soon, it was soo much the first time. what causes a space? it is a gum issue or something else?

Sorry, your description is too vague to help. Any chance of a photo?

no, i don't have a photo unfortunetly but i am going to ask my dentist when i go on thurs. if i really need the crown or if they could do a filling instead but i doubt that is a possibility, everything is going wrong this year it seems. I did google it and it does say a composite filling might be possible so i at least have some hope. I did some research and it doesn't seem as scary as i thought to get the old crown off but still will see if it needs doing. All my dentist said there is space bacteria could get in and redoing is best and she showed me the xray.

i got my crown today, took 2 hours i wasn't planning on but made it through, had some gum bleeding. I just have some soreness now and will be careful the next week until i get the permanent crown. Soo proud of myself for doing it but it wasn't easy. Now the paying will be the worst part next week but at least i won't be as long, yeah, soo want to be done with the dentist this year!
