I am rather confused about biteguards.
I was told that wearing a soft biteguard would to some extent stop the natural shifting of teeth as time goes on. Is this true?
And then I was told that all adults clench and grind their teeth at night, is that right?
I know that I don't habitually do this as my mouth/jaw is relaxed each time I wake in the night and I have to remember to keep my mouth shut when I sleep.
And also I was told that therefore if you have any root canals, (which would have an onlay or crown), then you must wear a mouthguard at night otherwise the clenching or grinding that all adults do could break the root canalled tooth. Is this right?
I am fine to wear one if recommended, I just don't quite understand the reasoning behind it.
