Does anyone else feel uncomfortable leaving their coats in the waiting room?

One time I had a 5 dollar bill stolen from my winter coats pocket.

Sorry to hear about your stolen 5 dollar bill ?. It's probably a good idea to keep your valuables on your person, regardless of whether you're at a restaurant, a doctor's, a theatre, or any other place where people may come and go. If you have a bag or a trouser pocket, you could put your valuables in there, or else bring your coat to the treatment room with you.

Do you mean because of covid rules or just in general? I've never had to do that,but someone I know has recently (+bag) makes no sense if because of covid as you still go in the room wearing your clothes.
