Does pain always end in a root canal?

Hi again everyone, I've hit another rough patch in my dental journey. My lower left canine has a large cavity and in the last few days it's started to hurt a little  I have the dentist again on the 4th for a root canal in my front tooth, and I'm really scared I'll need yet another one, taking my total up to four :shame: I feel so upset, it feels like the more I've started attending the dentist, the more trouble I'm having. I'm really not as afraid to go anymore, I just feel like my teeth will never be normal again. I know it's probably not as bad as I'm thinking, and my dentist will sort me out and make me feel better, but I don't know... Anyway, thank you for any help :)

Hi no a pain doesn't always mean a rct and I hope yours doesn't this time. As long as you don't end up with it extracting I think you will be a winner :butterfly:

I agree with Carole that pain does not always end in a root canal. I have a tooth that hurts on and off for over three years now, and even had them send me to the root canal specialist for an evaluation. Nothing wrong with that tooth. I also have a filling that hurts on and off from clenching. Today's x-rays and exam shows it is fine. Try not to worry too much. As long as you are fixing your teeth as you go you will probably never lose them.

Hiya again everyone, thanks for your replies. Had my root canal done and all went good, a little bit sore for the injection this time, but my gum was still a a little swollen :) The dentist had a look at the tooth that was sore, and he said he thinks it might just need a regular filling, but he'll double check at my next appt. on the 10th. Thanks for your support again! :jump:

I am glad your rct went well. Hopefully you won't need another but if you do it is better than losing the tooth and having to have it extracted. Well done you :yayy::claps::claps::claps::bounces::wow::perfect::butterfly:

Hi Carole, thank you! All of this has taught me a tough lesson to never ignore the pain and hope it'll get better(done that too often to mention), but to get it looked at as soon as possible so a dentist can fix it and stop the pain!:jump:
