Re: pulled my tooth

I'm so sorry you are in such pain.

It really doesn't sound good if the nerve is exposed. Is there no way you could go and see a dentist?

I am no expert, but I would think if there is an infection you will need antibiotics, and also the rest of the tooth needs to be removed, otherwise it will just rot away.

Please try and contact a dentist and see if you can work out something regarding payment(it shouldn't cost that much to get a tooth pulled).

Please let us know how it is going

Re: pulled my tooth

£25 to see me and £18 PER TREATMENT and thats with an exemption form
becos i am on incap benefit.
I know its my health but kids come first in my house and lets face it the above is 65 percent of my weekly income

Re: pulled my tooth

So you are in the UK?

Wouldn't you be able to see an NHS dentist, since this is classed as an emergency?

Re: pulled my tooth

that is NHS unbelievable or what?

this whole country is rotting away as fast as my teeth HaHa
god that hurt.

Doctor refuses treatment becos it is a dental problem and
not a medical one so i cannot win can I.

Re: pulled my tooth

I think that's outrageous!

Of course it's a medical problem!

I am really sorry, I wish I knew what to suggest.

To ease the immediate pain(but not as a long term solution); have you tried bonjela?

Re: pulled my tooth

Is there a friend or family member that could help you with the cost????...because you really should find a way to get the rest of the tooth extracted....I am so sorry you are going through this:XXLhug:
Something that worked well for the pain for me was B.C powder...you mix it with warm water and drink it(swallowing pills was hard for me)they have it at pharmicies and on line u can order it...or you could try some orajel?Again I hope it gets sorted out soon...and u start feeling better.

Re: pulled my tooth

I have every sympathy with you and of course no one is going to say you shouldn't have done it because we've all been tempted and some have gone through with DIY dentistry too

However, something must be done now and I think what you have to do is get yourself down to your local hospital and into their emergency dental department. If truly nothing can be done to immediately remove the rest of the tooth, then if they don't, you must go to your doctor to get antibiotics to deal with the abscess until you can get into see a dentist. I know you are worried about cost, but your health comes first and there is always a way. You don't give your age, but I am betting you are young, so cannot perhaps a parent or siblings or close friend help.

Re: pulled my tooth

You could try phoning NHS Direct on 0845 4647, tell them how much pain you are in, they may be able to find some help for you. You have to get some antibotics for the abcess, I hope you get sorted out soon.. I think scaredstiff gave good advice about trying the local hospital..

Re: pulled my tooth

hey thanks for your support I reaally am grateful but I really have
explored most of the suggestions and really would like anypainrelief/nerve
killing advice possible before i scream .thanks

Re: pulled my tooth

I am no expert and I really want to offer you better advice... but I think if you have already tried "over the counter" pain killers like Ibuprofen and its not helping then you really need professional help. You cannot live on painkillers and they will not solve the problem. All the money spent on them may be better spent at the dentist.. Is there not a dentist who will carry out the treatment and let you pay some at a time.??:XXLhug:. I do feel for you..its horrible to be in such pain... Maybe one of the dentist's on this forum may give you some better advice soon...

Re: pulled my tooth

Finding away to kill the pain will be difficult since I am assuming that the root and nerve of the tooth are exposed making it allmost impossiable to get rid of the pain....the best thing would be to ask family or friends to let yo uborrow some money for the extraction of the rest of the tooth....I don't know how much thats costs where u are but here in the states its about $80.00 dollors.

I wish I had some other suggestions for the pain but I don't think that anything will help it much.
your in my prayers:XXLhug:

Re: pulled my tooth

pete
have you rung your local dental helpline? They will have a data base of dentists used for emergencies, and get you an appointment with one of them within a couple of days ( even tho you are not registered with one)
Thats how I started my " dental journey"............ got an appt with a local dentist, who then referred me to a specialist clinic who deal with nervous/phobic patients.

Failing that, ring Nhs 24 for advice or go to A & E. They may not like treating a dental emergency, but, if you explain your predicament, they should give you something to tide you over.

Good luck

Re: pulled my tooth

Am sure your kids would rather have you, and have you happy and healthy - even if it's difficult financially - than risk losing you (worst case scenario) with severe infection or painkiller OD?

If you're on incapacity ben you may be entitled to one of those emergency DSS loans - which you could use to finance it? Just an idea.

Please let us know how you are.

Re: pulled my tooth

Have you tried asking your dentist whether you can spread the payments over a few weeks? Maybe you can negotiate something.

You really need to get it treated if you want to feel better.

I am surprised you are not totally exempt from NHS charges on Incapacity Benefit? Seems you are right: https://www.nhs.uk/nhs-services/dentists/dental-costs/get-help-with-dental-costs/ - you get help towards it on Incapacity benefit but it is free as a hospital outpatient - does your local hospital have an oral surgery department who your A&E could call out to treat you for free?
if you can't face that , it's probably best to go to your GP, who can no doubt get you seen totally free immediately by your local Community Dental Service or emergency dentist.
A dentist can help you get rid of the pain....whatever your past experiences they really are there to help and have been trained to do this comfortably. Please don't suffer forever...life's too short.

Re: pulled my tooth

I'm not sure if the CDS is free either. Plus it depends on the PCT whether you will be seen immediately. Maybe you should try A&E. Tell them you can't afford to go to a dentist and if they don't treat you, you will get really ill and turn up there again. If you get referred from A&E as an outpatient it is likely to be free. Bear in mind though some A&E departments have a GP type pre triage service to deal with any non emergency cases & reduce A&E activity.

ridiculous that people cannot just have a tooth out for free if they are on limited means.

Re: pulled my tooth

by the way excuse any non sensible suggestions of mine. Have had a couple of glasses of wine :sleepyjuice:

Re: pulled my tooth

Over here there's a clinic for people with low incomes called CUPS (Calgary Urban Projects Society) where they offer services for low income and people in difficult situations. Dentists volunteer their time, and emergencies are taken care of. I wonder if there's anything similar to that over in the UK.

[broken link removed]

We also have a free dental day every year where some clinics offer their services to prescreened patients to perform free dental treatment. The university clinic is also manned by students who help out under supervision.

I would think that other cities might have something similar to these programs, and if not, maybe people could contact the movers and shakers in their local districts to help develop similar programs.
