Hi all

I’ve got a failed root canal on my upper incisor and I’m trying to find the right person to retreat it. I’m in the UK and am looking at the GDC website. My local private dentist refers people to a dentist in the Stroud area who isn’t on the specialist register but seems to be fairly well regarded. My NHS dentist that I’m registered at want to do it in house privately which I’m not keen on.

i suppose my question is is the register the be all and end all? If they’re not on the specialist Endodontics register am I taking a risk? And I know this part of my question is in the wrong area of the forum but if anyone does happen to have any recommendations for reRCT in the South West area let me know! :)

No, the register isn't necessarily the be-all and end all. I say this as a (retired) member of a Specialist List :)
I'd be inclined to go with the person your private dentist refers to, since they'll be familiar with the endo-guy's results.

Had the first part done yesterday and it’s hurt even more ever since  to be honest it barely hurt before the retreat. I’m impatient though... the tooth next to it isn’t happy either

Sorry to hear that, could it be inflammation? I had my first root canals recently and was concerned as they still felt tender when pressure was applied, like toothbrus, for a couple of weeks.

It probably is inflammation so I’ll keep an eye on it for now!

To be honest it feels like the infection is still there but I’d expect that to be gone as my appointment yesterday was to prepare the canals :(

I had a root canal a couple of weeks ago and it felt very tender when pressure applied, or using a toothbrush. But the ’tight’ feeling is had before had gone. After about 10 days the tenderness went, so I think I just heal slowly- maybe same with you.? Some teeth may just take longer to settle. When the tooth is cleaned with files it must affect the area around and that needs to recover. Hope it feels better tomorrow

Thank you both! I can still feel pressure when I press next to my nose (it was a front tooth) and the tooth feels a bit spongy when I bite down which indicates infection to me but maybe that’ll go before they close the canal :)

My failed root canal was a front tooth. I was told to give it several months to let the ligament heal
It was declared a failure after I still had pain next to my nose even after the pressure pain went away.

I would give it a while before you call it a failure. It may settle just fine. Mine had a huge abscess prior to the root canal and the endodontist did an apicoectomy as a last ditch effort to save my tooth.

Ah bless you, sounds awful. Mine doesn’t feel too bad today so I’m wondering if the facial pain was just pain from the injections. If it were a back tooth I wouldn’t be worried so much. In fact if it were a back tooth I’d have had the thing out by now to be honest! Thank you for letting me know where to feel for infection, I’ll be poking my face all day :)
