Dealing with something I've never seen before...I'm absolutely terrified of dentists, so when I chipped one of my upper front teeth a few years ago & it didn't hurt, I didn't even give a thought to having it looked at (if nothing hurts, it isn't serious...). Anyhow, over the past week, I've had a steady, low-grade fever of 100-101 despite ibuprofen. I've noticed a small, red hole on my upper gum near the root of my chipped tooth that's sensitive when I brush. Over the past couple of days, there's slight redness & swelling on my right cheek (along the side of my nose) & I'm noticing a dull, throbbing ache. What's going on here? Do I need to overcome my terror & see a dentist or can I just leave it alone?

Sounds like you need it looked at, it could be an abscess developing and you really don't want something like that blowing up right now.

Thank you! I guess I'll have to summon up the courage to go to the dentist (so much easier said than actually done).
