Ok..OCD kicking into over drive here so idk i just figure i vent and get some perspective. Forgive the long post.
My upper right molar on my left side...the last one (the other one was removed back in 03 because it was broken cause i used to chew on ice) when i run my finger nail along the edge of it on the lingual side, theres an area that slightly catches. No sign of a crack, craze line, etc. My best guess after nearly 40 years of use, its a slight worn spot. Also i really have to go looking for it as well. Cant see it in a mirror with lights, i doubt its cracked, no pain, etc.
But this triggers a massive anxiety attack and instantly fears of broken teeth, infection, pain on biting, etc. I should go see a dentist, its been a while since i had a check up (i havent went because of the pandemic) but i highly doubt this is anything serious.
I have other teeth with worn marks or areas that present no problems and had them for years and have been there through several dental checkups and no one ever said anything about them.
I think deep down the ocd i have with my teeth represents my fear of being permanently broken because teeth are unable to heal themselves, that combined with traumatic dental experience's and a sense of judgement from a dentist many years ago.
Basically as a kid, i was never taught how to brush and floss and that was never enforced. I would chew ice, neglect my teeth and when i was in my teens i had a bad severe abcess from a broken molar. few years later i got both that tooth and the other one removed in 03 where a dentist was very harsh with me, he recomended an oral surgon and got those two teeth removed but still neglected my teeth. got most of my treatment done with fillings in 07 and had severe dental ocd ever since.
I get its a mental issue but every new finding triggers me even if its a minor issue. I am in therapy, but maybe some unique perspective can help relieve fears as frankly im tired of living like this. Chances are i got very healthy teeth consitering the amout of care i give them
any advice? (im not ready to get a check up just yet, as i feel that would cause way more undue anxity then its worth).
