Hi all...

I have developed sensitivity to both hot and cold in my left front tooth. That tooth has a very old filling, but my dentist tells me that nothing is wrong, other than some gum recession. That said, it is really uncomfortable to eat or drink most things at this point. The sensitivity I am feeling is right where the filling sits. Two questions:

1. With gum recession, wouldn't I fell the sensitivity at the gumline? I am actually feeling it (or think I'm feeling it) at the filling.
2. I recently had cleaning and x-rays. Would decay under the old filling show up there? My dentist didn't say anything.

I'm having an implant done tomorrow (and full of anxiety about that) and this sensitivity is only further driving my fears. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Not really, the nerves in teeth just aren't that sensitive. They're pretty much just off or on without much subtlety.

Probably yes. Decay isn't always shown up on x-rays but during the cleaning they should have seen something.
