Genetics and cavities

Do genetics impact your chances of getting cavities or any other issues like gum related issues? I seem to be more prone to cavities and plaque than my family even though I try very hard to keep up with clean and healthy teeth and gums.

Cavities probably a little but not that important in the overall scheme of things, gum disease definitely, genetics are a big factor.
