had an upper tooth pulled 3 weeks ago & now have a perforated sinus & ever since my sinuses are running out of my nose my throat & eyes, sinus pain in my eye & cheek @ antibiotics and advil & nothing helped I have an apt with ENT Dr.

I hope the ENT can sort you out. I had a perforated sinus with an apicoectomy. It isn't pleasant. However, mine did get stitched up from the outside so it wasn't running into my mouth. The ENT told me it would resolve itself within a few months and not to blow my nose at all, as that would prevent healing.

When I had an upper tooth pulled that went into the sinus cavity, the oral surgeon sewed a collagen membrane over the area so that there would not be a communication. Again, told me not to blow my nose for a few weeks, or until it felt normal again.

I did get a horrific sinus infection both times, though.

thank you for your reply

thank you for your reply

I will add that my husband had two upper molars pulled due to an abscess, and he had a sinus communication for about 8 weeks. He refused to go to the doctor for it, and his was open from his sinus into his mouth. It did resolve itself and close up.

Good luck!

thank you again

Let us know how it goes with the ENT

Hi,

I can assure you this complication is treatable and quickly. ENT doctor is the right king of specialist for that.

OR an OMS who probably has treated more of these cases than an ENT due to it being caused by dental.

I would add that this complication is reasonably rare and usually resolves on it's own within a few weeks. So, if anyone reading this is about to have an upper back tooth removed, please do not worry.

Yes indeed! WHile we know it can happen I have never had a sinus perforation during an extraction where I couldn't manage the problem myself. I will also note that I have had to manage a perforation only a handful of times over thirty years.

Thirded, I've seen it happen twice (after I did the extractions) in 45 years. Easy to sort them if you have to but most spontaneously heal up in a couple of weeks.

I will let you know tomorrow after seeing ENT Doc
thank you for caring

thank you seeing ENT tomorrow it's been 2 weeks & not healing

got back from ENT Dr. she said there was pus up in my sinuses from the extraction she told me to throw away the antibiotic I was using and gave me clindamyicin, prednisone, nasal spray, mupirocin ointment, saline sinus rinse & come back in 2 weeks, she ordered a CT Scan
so I asked why a CT scan, she said she might have to do a surgical procedure in my nose REALLY???

Hi, The Queen ENT Dr. saw pus in my sinus She gave me Clindamycin, prednisone, mupirocin2% ointment, fluticasone nasal spray, sinus rinse & she ordered a CT Scan, she said I might need surgery in my sinuses. REALLY????

I don't know if it makes you feel better, but like I said earlier, I got really bad sinus infections with both mine as well, and they did clear up and resolve. The ENT told me the same thing about possibly having to do a surgery if it didn't resolve. He was also clear that it was pretty rare that they don't resolve on their own, as the dentists on here have already said.
I had a CBCT scan at the endodontist, and took it with me to the ENT. Mine had resolved after a month.

Hopefully the clindamycin will work, as it is a strong antibiotic. I took it a few weeks ago, after my infection remained, even after a root canal and apicoectomy, and several rounds of amoxicillin. If you haven't already, start taking a probiotic, as the clindamycin does a number on your gut bacteria.

Thank you for your input
