I havent gone to the dentist in a long while. I went to a recommended oral surgeon yesterday to talk about getting a root canal in my cavity. Btw, my cavity has been hurting the HECK out of me, to the point where I can't even sleep well, and my ear keeps hurting. I am highly terrified of dentists, especially needles. I was wondering if you guys could explain very deeply what I should expect for a root canal, Thank you, sm! Will keep you updated!

Root canal for beginners:
1) X-rays to see what the root(s) look like
2) Local anaesthetic
3) Rubber dam applied, sort of a rubber sheet with a hole in it, the tooth gets poked through the hole. Stops nasty stuff going in your mouth and keeps tongue, lips etc out of the way
4) Decay removed, root canals accessed
5) Root canals filed using little tiny files, a bit like nail files. Shaped so they're nice and evenly round
6) Root canals disinfected with hypochlorite (something like bleach)
7) Canals filled with a sort of rubber material and a sealant
8) Check x-ray taken
9) Access cavity sealed up
10) Rubber dam removed

Thank you! Do you know what kind of anesthetic they could provide me? And which one could hurt the least?

Sorry, too many different ones to list.
No difference between them at all as far as hurting patients go, but none of them should hurt much at all.
