Hi all,

Think I’m doing this right!

Haven’t been to the dentist for around 10 years, initially due to an inability to afford it (and the lack of NHS dental provision), and then because I realised I’d left it so long that I was going to get told off like I was by the dentist when I was a kid, and that my teeth must’ve been terrible, and that I was going to need loads and loads of expensive work.

Today I felt something crunch and a bit of my gum felt loose and flappy, and it felt like a bit of tooth at the gum had broken off or something? This happened once before, a few years ago, but I convinced myself it was just old food or something.

I finally booked a check up (privately) so I at least know if I do need to do anything more, but now I’ve thrown myself into a panic that I’m going to need all my teeth removed and I’m going to spend thousands and have dentures in my 20’s.

My teeth are definitely somewhat yellowed, with darkish patches near the gums, but I don’t think they look thaaat bad at the front. I haven’t smoked in years and years and only did properly for maybe a year, and I brush my teeth and mouthwash what I think is a decent amount.

Just looking for advice on what I can expect really - is it actually possible (and likely) that I’m going to need them all removed or something? Just want to put my mind at ease to be honest. Thanks in advance!

If you're having no symptoms whatever then it's pretty unlikely that you're going to need all your teeth out.
The biggest cause of tooth loss in the UK is gum disease, at 20 you're far too young to have advanced gum disease...
