Gum disease isn't healing and it makes me so mad I want to knock all my teeth out

I've had it for months. It's driving me crazy.

I've been to the hygienist twice and had my teeth scaled and polished. She told me to use an electric toothbrush, pull the brush slowly down the gums and it would heal and tighten up.

At my last app, June 26, she said the pockets were down to 2mm and that it was all healing up but it doesn't seem so to me.

The gum between my two top front teeth is swollen and the gum above both canines. I'll admit it's better than it was a couple months ago but it's not healed completely. Sometimes the gum between my two front teeth will lay flat and look miles better but then 4 or 5 hours later it's swollen again.

It's depressing me so much. I feel like knocking my teeth out.

I floss, I use mouthwash, I brush 2, sometimes 3 times a day. And nothing. It will not go away.

How many months is it going to take? OR will it never heal and I should just have my teeth taken out?

(I'm sorry for whining but I have cried about this today and I'm so depressed about it I posted here)

Hi,
There are several possible reasons for swollen gums especially at the front teeth:
1) Mouth breathing
2) medication
3) your natural form of the gums

and many more.
I sugest you go to a specialist (periodontist) or at least an experienced dentist for a good diagnosis. An oral hygienist is sometimes not enough.

Hi,

2 mm pockets are great! I have gum disease too and had deep cleanings but mine didn't work so I had to have gum surgery. I still need to do one quadrant. Most of my pockets are down from 7mm and 8mm to 3mm. I do have two 5mm but they used to be 8mm so there was improvement. My point is your gums sound like they are very healthy so please don't feel bad. :)

Take care,
Mich

How long are these appointments? Is it NHS or private? Did you know there are different types of cleanings and maybe you need something more thorough (deep cleaning) where anaesthetic is given but it depends obviously on whether there are pockets/tartar under the gumline. If your gums are sore it is maybe hard to do a thorough clean without numbing the patient up - so you don't hurt them.

Usually, the hygienist works on behalf of the dentist so it may be best to make an appointment and discuss how ineffective the treatment has been with him. If NHS you may be on NHS dental protocolls which from my point of view always dentally seem to involve doing the bare minimum and not taking decisive action until symptoms are much worse. So you have seen her twice? Over what period?

Daniel is right, you'd benefit from someone taking your concerns seriously...whether this is another (private ) dentist, another hygienist, a periodontic specialist.

For sure it will get sorted with time and appropriate care. As someone else said 2mm is not bad. I think you maybe need to see a more clued up dentist/hygienist for a second opinion and spell out how it is affecting your quality of life.
Sounds like your oral hygiene regime is great.
