Hi

I attended the dentist for the first time in 12 years this week. Initially he told me that my teeth looked good aside from a bit of recession they just needed a good clean. I visited the hygienist the next day and while I was there the dentist asked if I could see him while I was there. When I went in he said that my final x-ray came back and it is showing between 10-20% bone loss in my tooth. I was caught off guard so didn’t really ask any more but it has caused me to be overridden with anxiety since then.

Am I at risk of losing my tooth? Is 10-20% bone loss bad/severe?

The dentist didn’t mention anything to do with deep pockets or anything however I’m presuming this must mean I have advanced gum disease?

I’m 35 and my dad has gum disease, both the hygienist and dentist asked me lots of questions about my dad’s gum disease.

So I just had a call with the practice….turns out there’s no signs of gum disease, no deep pockets- infact they said my gums are near perfect. they just need to keep an eye on the bone loss but it is possibly to do with me grinding my teeth…which I do often when I’m anxious!

Anxiety is a wonderful thing!
