Hi all
Not been on for a while .

So I had my teeth out under GA a few weeks ago now and my gums have healed well .

Now I was booked into see a new NHS dentist and from the minute I walked in it was terrible.

Honestly what is it with some NHS dentist?
This is the fourth dentist now I can’t bare it at all .

I need a root canal I have no money for private , I’m actually terrified of a root a canal so any help and support would be great regarding root canal .

I’m not sure what too do anymore as the waiting list is 1/2 years still ans there’s so many I’ve signed up for .

Hi, I didnt want to read and run and was also terrified of root canal treatment. I found the reality to be far different to what my fear told me. I had it done in two sessions, each one being similar to a large filling appointment in time and experience. The infection that necessitated the root canal had been very painful and the relief was instant after that first appointment I didn't have any issues with pain or sensitivity during the process or recovery.
What is it about the dentist that you felt didnt work for you? You are right the waiting lists are long and seem to be getting longer. Do you think you could have the root canal and any treatment required with this dentist whilst keeping on looking for a dentist you would feel more comfortable with

I let the receptionist know I am autistic and I need time etc anyway soon as I went in and said what do you want me too do ? Didn’t know what to say ! I also have kyphosis and can’t lie down flat . I explained so her assistant went and got me a towel . As I did not have my daughter with me as she attends appointments with me I folded it up but it didn’t help and she proceeded to lie me down . The chair was so hard and then I ended up with my neck strained I felt silly .

Anyway she then started prodding about saying oh can you sit still for an hour you need a root canal . Bring your own pillow if you can’t lie flat .
I just broke down when I came

I’m just tried of it all . The lack of experience is not great at all .
Kyphosis means my spine sticks out ( curves at the top) so I can’t lie flat . No will not be going back there at all .

I just want treatment done then help with dentures .

Thank you for explaining I completley understand why you wouldn't want to go back. Its so very frustrating to be at the mercy of waiting lists and hope. Hope that you'll not only find a place but also with a dentist that can accommodate your needs. I do hope that a place comes up soon with a practise that is able to listen to your needs and be willing to work with them. Do you have access to an emergency dentist in case the tooth flares up or you need dentures adjusting?

@Sarithecat . I don’t have dentures yet no one has checked my gums . I think my gums are receding as I can see some of the root. I’m hoping I’ll get a space at the community dental hospital as I’m on the waiting list . I think they call it peridontal or something like that . It’s a combination of hormones and age . So hard to find a dentist still

@Natzuk Oh I hope a place comes up soon for you it must be very stressful waiting. Yes getting old sucks but the alternative is much worse so I am trying to embrace the challenges. Extremely difficult to do when anxiety is involved though. I wish you the best
