Help-- do i need an endodontist ?

Pain from a large deep filling to my lower molar five days ago, still hurts, somewhat sensitive to hot coffee. Has been painful there though since getting my wisdom tooth behind that molar extracted Feb 5 for which I went to the oral surgeon just a week ago for examining it and he said he had to cut my muscles there and it could take another month even to heal. So I called my dentist today about the pain there and they want to refer me to an endodontist which of course is going to cost lots of money even just for an evaluation. But I am so tired of the pain too. Just confused on if the pain will get better over the next week as that nerve might calm down from the big filling, or if this is something that likely needs a root canal or else I will continue with the pain. How do I decide what to do? I need some help from those experienced here, what should I do?

It's almost impossible to say from here. Your dentist has the benefit of seeing what's going on in your mouth and seeing x-rays, we have neither. Your best bet is to ask the dentist these questions, sorry.

Thanks. I did email my dentist and was advised to see the endodontist, so I did, and it has been about 36 hrs now since I had a root canal at the endodontist. (see my other posts about this). Up at 4am now with pain that woke me, took pain meds, oh man i am hoping this pain goes away of course within the hour but more importantly over the coming days to week so I will know this nightmare is ending and I can put a final end to it with a crown.
