Hi All,
I'm new here and terrified to say the least of what I have to face on Thursday. My son accidentally hit me in the mouth this weekend while we were playing miniature golf, with his club. The force of the blow has broken the roots of 4 top and 4 bottom teeth and because of my previous bone disease, they cannot be saved. I have to have them extracted on Thursday with immediate dentures afterwards. Besides the fact, that I wouldn't be as terrified if I thought I could be asleep for it (I don't think he does that in his office) I am also a singer who plays flute and I am worried this will affect my career. I have always hated my teeth, but certainly didn't want to lose them this way. I am kind of looking forward to my "new" look but scared to death about the process and outcome. Can anyone answer the following for me please:
1. How long does it take to be able to speak normally? When will I be able to sing?
2. Should I expect that my ability to play flute/sing will no longer be the same?
3. With such extensive work needing to be done, is it normal NOT to be sedated for it?
4. Did you get to see your new teeth before they removed the old ones?

Thanks so much. Scared to death.

1) Two or three days to talk normally, I'd guess singing is about the same...
2) I don't know, I've heard conflicting reports, some folks have no bother
3) It's not very extensive. Yes it's normal not to be sedated.
4) You can't tell much about how they look until they're in place and you can't fit them till the old ones are out...
