I had my four front uppers removed and dentures back in November.
My experiences so far of both speech and eating are below for you.
I however am sticking with normal dentures and I don't have any metal clasps on mine.
Speech:
My speech was fine immediately after the extractions and denture going in.
Just under 2 hours after the treatment I was back and working from home and was making and taking calls from colleagues with no issues at all.
Around 3 weeks after getting the dentures I was experiencing the partial wobbling around due to gums healing and a gap between my gums and the plate and I was struggling to speak - I had issues with 'sh', 'sch' and 'tion' as part of a word mostly.
The dentist had told me not to use any adhesive but I realised at this point I needed to so I used Wernets powder which has been working.
Now, 3 months later the healing has again caused a bigger gap between the plate and my gums so I have upped to Fixodent today which so far is feeling much more fitted again. All my tester words sound very normal again.
I have been told by my dentist it'll be 2 years until I can have a reline (relining the plate with extra acrylic to sit closer to my gums) so I think I will just have to find ways to fill that gap with adhesive between now and then.
Eating:
I find it much more comfortable to eat with my dentures in than out.
The first few weeks I put no pressure on my front uppers though as when I did try it was painful as I wasn't healed. In the first few weeks I had soups or would break off small bits of bread, a main meal was easy as you tend to cut the food and place it in your mouth to chew.
Now I have much less of an issue. I would not choose to bite down into an apple but to be honest I have never felt confident in doing that ever since my adult teeth grew in as they were always twisted and not terribly strong.
When I eat an apple I cut slices off and bite a slice but I have always done this.
The first thing I attempted to properly bite through was a chip and it was fine.I can easily bite through pizza, crusty garlic bread, sandwiches etc now my gums are healed though.
