Dear community

Last week Friday my dentist removed a large cavity from my left eye tooth and removed the nerves(or so he says) and than stuck a temporary filling (paper like , over the drilled tooth) and prescribed antibiotics and told me to take Ibuprofen to help with the pain.

Today I woke up I'm solo much pain , the tooth feels like its throbbing and nothing seems to be relieving the pain.

-warm salt water
-massage of cheekbone
-Ibuprofen

I called the dentist back as its been 5 days since he drilled and did all the work and the pain is affecting my ability to do anything (including sleep) .. I'm running on no sleep (4 1/2 hours since Friday - today is Tuesday) . I called my dentist and was told the earliest appointment he has is for next week Friday.. Not this week.

I find the pain so painful that its making me light headed and causes my left eye to constantly twitch. Is their anything else I can do since the more time goes by the more painful it gets (I just want to hit myself in the head with a brick).

Oh also , I saw a specialist today about having other teeth extracted and was told I have to have 7 teeth removed but their is a waiting period to get this done in the hospital (mid September)

What can I do , should I go to the hospital if it continues to hurt as bad as it is? I've gone to the hospital for a few things in the past just to have to wait 7 hours and get sent home. My worries is that will happen again and only get antibiotics (which I've been on already for 5 days)

It sounds like you may need to call the dentist back and insist on an emergency appt. It sounds like you may be in the UK and I'm not exactly sure how things work there. I can tell you that in the U.S. if someone is in that much pain, it would not be acceptable to make her/him wait for a week and a half for an appt.

Hi there, it sounds like you're in terrible pain. Being in the UK, I can say that in the past when I phoned up to my dentist in pain, they got me in the next morning. I would suggest the same as above, to call in the morning and insist on being seen. No one should have to suffer the pain of a toothache. In the meantime, have you tried alternating between paracetamol and ibuprofen? If that doesn't work, I'm pretty sure you can also get co codamol from a chemist over the counter to try ease the pain a little, that is assuming you are in the UK. Hope you can get in to see the dentist sooner! :) I would say, if it gets any worse to go to the hospital. I went to the hospital when I was younger for a raging toothache and again, was seen that night.

That's awful. !!! I've been known to just show up at the dentist office, the minute they opened... I had a crown fall off, on a front tooth. I could NOT walk around in public like that, or go to work, so I went straight to the office and said I would wait! I was out of there in an hour, with my crown glued back on.

Like others have said go back to the dentist for an emergency appointment I been a few times over the years when I needed an appointment, even though I go regularly, when I have problems in between appointments

I go down first thing and have been lucky to either sit it out and wait or get a later appointment in the day.

toothache of any type, pulled a filling out or lost a crown, damaged a tooth is not fun.
