Hello. I'm so confused. I have periodontal disease, for 30 years now. My doc retired, now new one. After a root scaling 8 months ago, I had a cleaning i get them every 3 months. He told me on the left was a pocket 6. I have no pain or swelling. He said he wanted to cut the gum, then get at the tooth root, then stitch it up. Meanwhile he has me on doxy hydrate, which is making me feel ill. I don't 100% believe that I need this gum surgery. Can you offer any ideas? Thank you. Rhonda

6mm of pocketing would progress without surgery, so it doesn't sound outrageous to me, scaling and root planing can only do so much.

You can ask for a different tetracycline to see if that helps with the nausea.
