I went for a check up (I get scared even with just a simple check up) and I've got 6 fillings to do - all 7 and 8's and an impressed dentist saying my teeth were quite well for my age.
I needed a filling down lower left molar (7) and due to costs & a spot of illness etc it's got worse. The cavity has now reached the pulp.
Because I've had no problem with it, no pain, no sensitivity or anything the dentist decided to try to risk a filling with a different dentist there who does more restoration work. If I get pain or anything I'll have to have a root canal. The dentist is fantastic at root canals but the price scares and also the idea of going through a failed filling (again!) scares me.
At my previous dentist I left the dentist did a very deep filling and it failed and I ended up with a very bad infection and I ended up with an abscess with just ended up constantly bursting in the end and going on antibiotics... this all ended up with me going to a different dentist place and getting a root canal and crown.
I'm booked in and I'm having the two lower molars filled at the same time. Apart from that one tooth I don't think the other teeth will be a problem.
So I'm panicking that I might have to go through all that yet again. So any words of comfort and wisdom will be greatly appreciated!

Hi Little tiger,

I just saw that your post had not gotten any replies yet, so jumping in a bit late. Have you had your appointment for the filling yet?
When it comes to your past experience, it's important to know that it does not always have to be that way. If a filling is deep, they put a medication in that is supposed to create a little barrier and help the nerve to calm down. Very often it does work. And sometimes it does not. But even if it does not work, it does not mean that you'll get an abscess. What you described from the last experience sounds terrible.
I wish you the best of luck and please keep us posted :)

All the best wishes

@Enarete Thank you for the reply it's reassuring! I'm due late next week so I'm on my count down.
I don't think it'll be as deep as my other tooth luckily. I remember having some kind of medication last time and it did failed - the dentist who did that said he just did the same thing on a different customer and it worked so he gave it 80% chance of success so I must be very unlucky!
The fear of it going wrong again and I remember the smell just made me panic. I wasn't good with the sound so I should bring headphones with me next time.
I don't know this dentist as this dentist is new I think but I have more faith in this dental practise than I had with the other one. I just hope I'll be more luckier this time. :scared:

So I got ill and had to postpone my appointment which is next week.
I'm getting more and more scared -
Mostly I read online is once it reaches the pulp then that's the end - it has to be a root canal. Why do I have to keep asking Dr Google? :frantic:
It's less bad than the other tooth was but I still have the fear of root canal and crown again (price fear!). The pulp has gone back a trying to defend itself, I just couldn't afford to get it sorted in time. :dunno:
It'll be a different dentist (I think newish) in the same practice as my dentist said this dentist is more of an expert in teeth restoration.
Planning on taking headphones as the drilling noise make me panic!
