My name is Jamie. I am new to this forum as of tonight. I have always had an extreme fear of the dentist. Growing up, we never went unless there was an issue and we never got anything "good" from going to the dentist. I've I've gone to numerous offices in the past 5 years but I end up going in for a consultation and not going back because I get so scared. I had a bad experience a couple years ago with a root canal and the dentist had to keep numbing me and he seems he was getting annoyed with it. I got my temp crown on and never went back. That's gone now. Another fear is cost. I have no extra money. I do have a Care Credit account but I've got a whopping $1000 on it.......DEFINITELY not enough.

If anyone can help steer me in the right direction, I would appreciate it so much.
I'm in the Twin Cities, MN area, hoping I can find a referral on here.

Thanks so much!
Jamie

Hi Jamie!
You've come to the right place! The members here are fantastic and you have already taken a huge first step posting here! There are a lot of great dentists being recommended from other phobics (and former-phobics ;)) here so you may want to check that out. Sorry to hear you have had such a rough history with dentists in the past! Sounds like you just haven't found the right dentist for you yet but he/she is out there, don't give up hope yet! Do you have any close friends or coworkers you can ask for a recommendation? That's really the best place to start...I think a lot of dentists these days also offer payment plans to make things easier. There are a lot of reasons that you may have had trouble getting numb before. Your dentist should not have been annoyed...it's not your fault you aren't numb! If you're interested, this page has a lot of good information about trouble with local anesthesia and may explain the difficulties you had:

Let me be the first to send you a warm welcome to DFC! Please have a look around! We will support you any way we can! :grouphug:

KitKat gave you some good recommendations for finding the right dentist.

Any dentist that was annoyed with you for not getting numb enough obviously wasn't the right dentist. (Like you were doing it on purpose??)

Thanks so much for your replies. I did email about 4 dentists last night. One emailed back saying that I sound like a good candidate for sedation, but they don't offer it so they gave me a couple of recommendations. Another one emailed back saying they would like to see me, but they don't accept Care Credit. That is just not an option. BTW, has anyone had any luck getting a limit increase through the DR's office? I tried getting an increase myself but, they denied it :-/
