How have people adjusted to dental work changing their looks? It's not like a bad haircut, that will grow out.

The thing is, nowadays, dental work shouldn't change your looks for the worse. But a lot depends on the skill of the dentist and the lab technician.

There is nothing wrong with replacing dental work that makes you really unhappy, especially if you can afford it. Most dentists should be able to provide a natural-looking crown these days. But of course, some dentists are better than others, some don't have very good colour-matching skills, and some work with better lab technicians than others.

If you want to make really sure that you'll be happy with the end result, maybe do a search for prosthodontists in your area (and check their Google and other reviews). Let them know how unhappy you are with your current crowns. Get their suggestions on how to go about improving things. As the dentists on here have suggested, it might be best to go with bleaching first and then replacing the crowns that really stand out (also to keep costs at a reasonable level). Ask if you can see photos of their work on patients who were in a similar situation. And ask them if they work together with a lab that you can actually visit, so the lab technician can ensure a great colour match, especially if it's a front tooth.

That's just my opinion as a somewhat vain person (who doesn't do "adjusting" well ?) - of course, there is always a slight level of risk involved in fixing things that work.

Hi,
Modern dentistry is trying to be predictable as possible. When it comes to esthetics, there are several means to make it predicable:
1) computers softwares that illustrate the new smile
2) making a temporary restoration that mimics the permanent ones
3) cementing the permanent restorations with temporary cement, making it easy to make changes in the crowns
