How do you take an impression with missing teeth?

Just wanted to ask, if a loose tooth comes out, is it still possible to take an impression for a partial denture?

Not sure I understand your question? We take impressions with missing teeth all the time?

Maybe the question is "how do dentists know what shape and size to make the replacement teeth when they can't take a mould of the existing teeth"?

99% of the time it's whatever mould shape will fit in the gap best, which we leave to the lab techs There are literally hundreds of different moulds for denture teeth.
