How does one find the best dental surgeon for major dental and tooth implants?

I've had some bad experiences with dentists in the past. Bad dental work that has resulted in numerous root canals (half of them failed), bad advice and rushed treatments. How does one find a dentist who is attentive, experienced, honest who does an excellent job? I am now looking into either getting implants or an all on four but because of the expense and anxiety I want to find the right person. Is there a specific technology they use to look for or is it all basically the same?
Not many people I know have had major dental work so can't recommend anyone. Is there a way without spending a lot of money visiting many?
