How long to wait after a full extraction

I was wondering how long do most dentists require you to wait before they can make impressions of your gums for dentures. I was wondering this because I'm going on 2 weeks and my Oral Surgeon said I look like someone that has been healing for about a month now. I was just wondering because I'm having a hard time trying to eat more solid foods as I'm stuck on soft foods because my jaws in the back won't mash the food so to speak.

If you're going by "the book" then 6 weeks is the recommended time.

I know some say a month, some say 6 weeks. I go back for a check up with my regular dentist next month, so I'll see then . Thanks for the help so far.
