I’ve noticed gum recession on one of my molars and i’m not sure how bad it is but I’m nervous about going to the dentist for it.

I’ve noticed that one of my molars has receding gums and when I look at it the gums are further down on that tooth than the rest. The part that is exposed is darker than the rest of my teeth and it’s quite sensitive to the cold and occasionally when things touch it. I’ve made quite a few dentist appointments for it but i always get too nervous the day of and end up not going due to anxiety. I’ve had bad experiences with the dentist in the past and i’ve always felt judged when I do go. I’m not sure how to get over this anxiety even though I know that I need to go. My fear of the dentist outweighs my fear of losing a tooth which sounds silly. How did yall get over the fear of going?

Dentists are doers who want to help and remembering that if someone is rude to you or you don't like the treatment plan, you can take your case elsewhere. I think most of us get stuck in the mentality of a scolded child with a parent who decides where and what we can do when we're grown adults now.

If the root is exposed, get a toothpaste like Sensodyne rapid relief, I think there is a list on this site that ranks most helpful toothpastes to least, and rub that into the root and it should help with that until you see the dentist.

Truth is, it can't get better until you see the dentist and while it's scary, it is survivable. You'll be okay. They might recommend toothpaste or a gum graft, there are options. :)
