Hi, I got a root canal done a few weeks ago. Because I had a cavity that was really deep in. Weeks later on Wednesday March 17 it started hurting at night. I was crying of the pain. It was the worse pain I’ve felt...I went to the dentist the next day, and my dentist did an X-ray to see what was going on. He said I had a little bit of pus and it got infected. He treated it. And before I left he gave me some antibiotics. It is now Saturday March 20 & it doesn’t hurt AS much as it did on Wednesday. I’ll be seeing my dentist on Monday again to get more treatment. But honestly I can’t stop thinking of the worse possibilities. Because it still hurt just a little bit it makes me think that maybe I’m going to lose my tooth. Or worse...makes me think I will die ... literally. I am able to sleep through the pain I feel now because it’s not as bad as Wednesday night but I’m scared of the worse possibilities. I am hoping to find some experiences from dentists of patients that have gone through this and to tell me I’m overthinking it and that everything will be okay... 😭

I am pleased to hear that the terrible pain you were having is much easier now.
What I can tell you is you are not going to die. What I cannot tell you is whether you will lose the tooth.
If a root canal treatment does not work, it is sometimes possible to have a root canal specialist redo it and get a successful result. Your dentist will be able to advise you on what your options are.
I hope it all works out for you.

Thank you for your advise. At least I won’t die 🥲 I’m just really terrified of dental or dentist in general. I always think of the worse possibilities cause I always google things (I know, bad idea) and google always shows the worse possibilities. Again thank you for taking the time to reply

@lorenaguezz. I know I have been there. Googling and worrying myself. There is lots of good tips and advice on here as to what may help at the dentist. And having been through being terrified myself I’m happy to answer any questions to. In relation to the fear of dying from a tooth infection there is a whole thread on that on here which maybe useful.

And by the way. Well done for going to the dentist even though you are terrified!
