Hi as you maybe aware I had a bad bridge fitted last year that caused me no end of problems....have had it removed and the dentist who is very good has removed it for me now and put a temp on for the next 6 months. He has made the temp bridge was made from an impression from the bridge I had taken off. After many adjustments... filing down adding bits it still hurts and does not feel right.. It feels like WHEN I eat the teeth are coming down in the wrong place..
When I run my teeth round the inside it feels like the first tooth comes in too far.. I am sure that tooth was a lot smaller before...I would live with it but when I eat anything it hurts also the outside of the teeth seem very flat...It is hard to explain...

I really don't want to keep going back all the time..but don't want to fork out another £200.00 on another bridge that feels the same as the one I have just had taken off...

Do any of the dentists know what I am trying to say... and if so could that be the my problem...I am trying to take a photo but it is not easy ....how do I add a photo.

Sorry this is still dragging on, but I'm afraid there's not much I can say except go back again :(

You can post a photo by replying as normal, when you've finished writing your message, scroll down a bit to "Additional Options" and click on the "Manage Attachments" button (under "Attach Files"). This will create a little pop-up window which allows you to upload the picture from your computer (use "Browse..." to find the photo you want to upload), then click the "Upload" button.

This should attach the photo to your post :) (as an attachment).

Alternatively you can upload a photo to a free image sharing website like photobucket.com and insert the photo into the post using the Insert Image button - but the attachment option is much easier and quicker.

Hi Gordon.. I rang the dental surgery and asked what he wanted me to do...would he prefer me to come and see him when I am due to go back in 6 months and have final adjustments made or come back now. I am due back in 6 months....

The receptionist rang me back, and am going back tonight...

I think half of my problem is I have become so dental phobic with regards dentists... I am scared of them. I am more scared of the dentist themselves than the treatment:hidesbehindsofa: My last dentist was so horrid to me I am terrified the new one will just get pissed off with me too...I even had nightmares about it the other night...I have got to the stage that I am scared to say what I feel is wrong...also it worries me that none of this is my new new dentists fault, he is just clearing up someones mess...I am worried how much all this is costing him as I am a NHS patient.
If I thought that I would get a perfect fitting bridge by going private I would borrow some money, however I would be gutted if after getting my self in debt. I lost the bridge a couple of months along the line due to the fact the all this trauma has killed the nerve.

I will try and post the photo's...

Well here goes, might take me a while. No it went wrong... will try again ..

Lets hope this works

The first one is how my teeth used to be BEFORE I ever lost the tooth...the one I lost was the the one you can see at the back on the first photo..I also had a crown removed at the back to attach the bridge to which you cannot see in the first photo....

The second one is the bridge I have now...my dentist has made a temp from a impression he made before he removed the bridge..as you can see the teeth are now very short and the are no cusps....

This one is of the bridge looking up from below.. ( right hand side) The first tooth next to the canine feels like it is too big, and and did from the start...and now it has been ground down the surface at the bottom of the tooth is even larger.. It is there that has hurt me when I bite on it... I FEEL like I want to push the whole bridge over to the right a tiny bit as I am sure that RIGHT FROM THE START the alinement's on those teeth was all wrong. If the bridge is modeled on this bridge I FEEL It is will be exactly the same as the one I had off...

Here the dentist has built up a few cusps but it still feels as though my lower jaw is sliding to right... Also because the last dentist took so much off the bridge you can see that the left hand bridge had to be lowered too...that bridge starts from the canine which had to have RCT..( 3 TEETH) the back one is a crown...That is also that is now quite flat so that the lack of cusps is making it slide across...

AND CHEWING NOW IS A NIGHTMARE not only do they have noting to chew on but the pain when I chew anything substantial hurts...

This photo maybe a little clearer...

What really upsets me is that I have had no problems with my teeth before this all happened since the 1995 apart from a filling that came out, but went to the dentist the next day and got it fixed... all this has happened in one year cos my last dentist cracked my root refitting a posted crown..

Hi Sue, Gordon is moving house at the moment and I don't think he's got internet access yet :( - so it might be a few days before he sees your message.

Maybe David here can shed some light on things :) (if he spots this)

All the best for your appointment tonight :grouphug: - maybe you could write your concerns down in the form of a letter and give it to your dentist, if you find it difficult to raise your concerns face-to-face?

Thanks letconnect..for your kind wishes...

I saw the dentist and he was really nice, won't stop me being scared next time though lol

He has adjusted the teeth again and has talked about referring me to a hospital to see a restorative dentist.. Not sure what exactly they do, perhaps someone can tell me...

restorative dentists are specialists in restoring teeth to good funtion/appearance. they have had expert training above and beyond normal dental training and do things like crowns/bridges, even implants. they should also be the best person to help you with any bite issues you have. you pay lots of money to see restorative dentists privately so you should definitely take up this opportunity if it's offered to you. good luck with everything!

Great to hear everything went well and that he was really nice :).

As Olanda said, a referral to restorative dentists sounds like a great opportunity - I hope they'll be able to see you soon

Well it is not certain only if things don't get any better.. I am not quite sure what will happen, he has told me to come back in two weeks if things are not any better and talked of sending me to the hospital if things are not better in 3 months...I am a little confused as my teeth are now so ground down I have no cusps to eat on as such so until I get the perm bridge done I am not sure what I should or not be feeling when I eat...

It still hurts to eat on that side but could that just be cos my teeth are so flat now...my jaw is still clicking and I have a dull neuralgia like pain...

Hi Swampiesue, just read the thread. Sounds to me like an occlusion issue. When the bite is changed by a dentist, it should be in harmony with the rest of the mouth 'when at rest' and 'when in function'. It sounds like this is not the case. The bite needs to be checked in centric relation, lateral excursions etc etc, (all boring technical terms). The bridge must also be made to fit all of these 'working criteria'. If not then some people will feel pain when eating or even when the teeth are at rest. It is possible to have a bridge made that should feel comfortable (you just need to find the right person to do that - a restorative dentist is definitely the right person ...or you could find a dentist who has done further training in occlusion).
The problem you are having is getting to technical end of dentistry ...but that does not mean someone cannot do it for you.
Hope that helps a bit

Hi David, thank you for that reply, it certainly gives me hope...from the very first time I had the bridge fitted...before it was adjusted and everything else done to my teeth... I have felt that the teeth were biting in the wrong place as well as the back tooth on the bridge being far to high.....

It is coming up to a year in June and I can honestly say this has been the worst year of my life..as far as my health is concerned and I have had and still have quite a few health issues...Nothing has made me feel so low and depressed has having teeth that don't seem to fit and that cause pain... Never have I had these problems and I never had TMJ issues. All of my crowns and the other bridge that was done twice over the years have all been a perfect fit apart from a couple of minor adjustments. Even all the temp bridges and crown were more comfortable than how my bridge felt the day it was fitted...

I just want to get it sorted and get on with my life. I hate all this having to go back and forwards to the dentist saying things are not right.

Please can you tell me what do I still consider as not right ?

Hi swampiesue, sorry ..what do you mean by this last bit "Please can you tell me what do I still consider as not right ?" ....can you elaborate a bit more so I can reply.

My dentist has told me to come back in two weeks if I am still having problems..and said, he would refer me in three months to the hospital if still not right...

I guess the answer is yes It still hurts when I eat on it and I still feel like my lower jaw is slipping from the left to the right. My dentist has t narrowed the tooth for me that felt too big...so that is a little better. However I don't think things will ever be right unless the whole thing is done again from scratch since the temp bridge was made from an impression of the one I had taken off.

My bite on the upper left ( my old bridge) was altered to adjust to the lowered bridge on the upper Right which has hindered the bite even more.. I am also suffering neuralgia cracking jaw as well as clicking.......
 I just want it all gone and to keep my teeth which although were not perfect had been doing pretty well for the past 13 years or so before all this started...

As I said, none of this is down to my present dentist otherwise MAYBE I might have pushed for things to go faster...

I am sorry I am not very good at explaining things as I have memory problems and the words won't come I also have epilepsy and none of this is helping that side of my health.

Hi Swapiesue, Ok ...so from here I would ask you dentist to refer you to the restorative specialist. If he is unable to solve the problem then you need to find someone who can (and the restorative specialist is that person). The quicker you get your dentist to refer you, the quicker you get seen, the quicker the problem will be fixed.
We all just want this problem to get better for you:thumbsup:
p.s you explanation was fine:)

Bless you David and thanks to all of you who have been helping me over the past few months...and listening to moaning on, you have been better than some of my friends and family...:XXLhug:

You are right the quicker this is sorted the better...but everything seems to take forever where I live :p

This is making me ill both physically and mentally..

Hi Sue, maybe you could write a letter to your dentist explaining exactly how distressing this situation is for you, and ask for an early referral? Such a letter wouldn't have to be accusatory in nature - just explain how you feel and how much of an impact this is having on your life, and how eternally grateful you would be if you could get an early referral :).
