Hello,
I had a molar extraction along with immediate implant placement and a bone graft on a molar 7 days ago. I had an ongoing infection with an abscess but my dentist said it was small so it was fine to proceed with the immediate implant placement. He placed a Teflon membrane and non-resorbable stitches on top and prescribed a 7 day course of antibiotics. The pain was really strong for 2-3 days but then decreased a lot and I haven't had to take painkillers since then. The stitches got loose after 3 days so I called my dentist and he cut them and said it looked good and the membrane should be fine without them. Now, the gum on the cheek side is still swollen, somewhat red, and painful when I touch it. I also have some brief bouts of pain from time to time and that started yesterday. I keep on reading that it shouldn't be painful and swollen anymore. The membrane also looks disgusting despite me brushing my teeth 3 times a day and doing salt water washes. Because of all of this, I'm really scared that I'm developing an infection and the implant and graft will fail. I cannot refrain from looking at it over and over again.
Should I contact my dentist so he checks it or wait for my next appointment in 1 week?
Thank you for your advicePXL_20240718_195103641.jpgPXL_20240718_003218851.jpg

Sorry I don't do implants. Hopefully Dr Hirst will chip in on this one, but personally I'd call your dentist for their advice, it's what you're paying them for :-)
