implant risk of infection
When I went to the oral surgeon a few weeks ago he pointed out an abscessed tooth #28 that my dentist never mentioned. The tooth has no symptoms like swelling or pain. I had a root canal done there for bad decay about 5 years ago. Although I had a toothache prior to the RCT it hurt much worse for weeks after. I remember asking my former dentist if I should be on antibiotics because it felt like it abscessed and he said no- was never x-rayed again until now, so I suspect this is chronic rather than acute.
My new dentist is planning an implant next to it #29 very soon. The only treatment he proposed for #28 is a core build with pins and a crown. I'm concerned about an incresed risk of infection in the implant site which I know can be a disaster. Is the implant far enough way that it won't pose a risk? Should I see an endodontist and get it treated first or leave well enough alone?
I asked for a quick consult visit with my dentist next week when I go in to have some stitches removed to discuss my next round of treatment which is lower teeth SRP, core build up on several. I don't want to have the core build up on #28 only to find out I need endodontic work later.
I'm not looking for trouble either way and I have plenty of work planned as it is, I've had my share of dental work with about 50% of it failed- hence the missing teeth.
Thanks
