Intense Pain After Implants

Two days ago I had 4 teeth pulled and 2 implanted bridges placed(4 implants total). I have had another implant placed before and had no where near the pain I have right now. I would say my pain is at 9 out of 10. I take the med(800 ml of Motrin) and it only lasts about two hours and then I’m curled up in a ball, ice on my face, crying. Is this pain normal? I don’t know how many days I can endure this. I’ve gotten no restful sleep either to help with healing because I am in so much pain. ☹️ On a side note, the specialist I went to does 1,000s of implants so I know he is not the problem.

It's not normal to have that much pain, get on the phone to your surgeon again.

Last Tuesday, about a week ago, I had 4 teeth pulled and two implanted bridges placed, so 4 total implants. Both back lower sides of my mouth hurt the first two days but then the left side subsided completely. The back right side pain subsided as well but the implant nearest my premolar has not. It hurts so incredibly bad that I am barely making it until my next dose of 800 mg of Motrin. And I’m spending my nights crying every couple of hours it hurts so incredibly bad. That part of my mouth is still swollen almost a week post surgery. I’m starting to panic that something is wrong with the implant. Honest to God it took everything I had to actually get the implants in the first place I was so terrified and now the pain is so unbearable I am extremely anxious of what could be causing such intense pain. Why is this one implant not healing? Help.

Please give the dentist who placed the implants a call and ask them to review for you.

They aren’t open today. I went to an emergency dentist. She said there’s no infection but with this amount of pain it could mean it’s not intergrating with my bone. I can’t believe my oral surgeon doesn’t have an emergency number. Counting down the minutes until tomorrow and I can get this implant OUT.

I hope they can get it fixed for you! I had one implant placed in February, and was not prepared for the amount of pain I felt afterwards. Everything I had read and what others told me was that pain was minimal and mild. It was worse than any procedure I had done previously, including an apicoectomy. However it only hurt that bad the first night, and by the next day, it was mild and tylenol worked to control the pain. That first evening after the numbing wore off, though, I was ready to rip it out myself. I can't imagine going through that for more than one day! I am sure the intensity for me had a lot to do with the fact that I cannot take ibuprofen, though. I was taking tylenol and tramadol.

Laura,

I'm so sorry for this pain you are having! Was the emergency dentist able to give you anything stronger than the motrin to get you by until you contact your dentist at least? Hoping you can get some answers and relief soon!

I saw my doctor today. After xrays, CT scan, and examination he said it’s the “perfect” implant. I’m experiencing inflammation. He prescribed me cortizone and said it should take the inflammation away and the pain along with it. However, I’m afraid to take the cortizone because of all the super scary side effects that can come with it. Even my own husband had a severe reaction to it. ☹️ God I hate having anxiety.

I am glad you found out the reason and don't have a problem with the implant. I understand the fear of taking medications as well. I have had some negative reactions to different meds as well, and worry about it every time I take something new.
