So just been for what I thought was going to be two fillings. Cool 2 injections, thats not too bad. Ended up being 4 injections as I wasn't numb enough at first and could feel pain from the drill. I've now been informed that I need to either have one of the teeth removed or have a root canal which is gonna cost me a stupid amount. I currently have a dressing on the tooth that needs to be removed/root canal which I'm kinda worried about it being painful when the numbing effect is over.

Prior to this I was totally fine going to the dentists, no worries but now even thinking about it makes me start to panic, just damn great... So has anyone had one of these dressings? They had cure it by shining some sort of light on it I think so I dont think its just some soft dressing. The other tooth with the filling is fine though and took much much less time to drill for the filling. The other tooth on the other hand took what felt like a life time.

Also whilst I was told if I needed to stop we could I felt like the dentist thought I was perhaps wasting their time when I did which was a few times throughout, mainly to get some more anesthetic and at one point because I just wanted to stop.

Rant over. TL:)R that sucked.

Just sent out an email to another dentists that seems to have good reviews and most of their website is centered around anxious or nervous patients. If I have to pay slightly more for private care so be it, I can claim at least some of the cost back anyway but I don't think I can go back to the same dentists. Throughout the procedure I had my hand clamped onto my other and was tensed up for the entirety. IF i'm even thinking that maybe that isn't the dentist I want to see then its probably best to just find somewhere else that can cater to the fact that I'm going to be nervous/scared as hell.

Hello alexjf

Sorry to hear you had a less than good experience, I had a very similar experience at my old dentists office and they did a similar thing in the fact that the nerve has been compromised, the dentist put in a dressing/sedative filling at the time but it had never been right since and I ended up in some hefty discomfort as a result of the "work" They were also bad at customer service and it got to the point where I was starting to become phobic again and was dreading going so I made the bold move of firing them and that was when I found my amazing dentist.

My new dentist is the only one ai have ever had that listens to me, understands my concerns and gas never caused me any pain whatsoever, I'm having the botched tooth RCT treated next week and then I'm having him to do an Implant for me, 2 things I would never have dreamed of opting for before.

I would say go for it as it doesn't sound like your current dentist is giving you much confidence and you never know you might be very pleasantly surprised; if you can find a dentist who will communicate with you and you can work together then you are on to a winner for sure.

good Luck, I'm sure you won't need it:clover::clover:

Good to know someone has had a similar expierience. Just wish I'd have not bothered as the tooth wasn't causing me any issues what so ever but now it has a bloody hole in it.

I know what you mean, I was exactly the same and was really mad that I allowed it to happen but I decided to go forward not back and I couldn't be more pleased with my dentist now.

Try not to stress too much (easier said than done I know :scared:) , a good dentist will make sure that you are comfortable throughout any procedure and will go at your pace so I would get rid of your current dentist and find one that will cater to your needs after all you are the customer.

hope all goes well,I will let you know how my RCT has gone next week.

kind Regards

Hope it goes well. Should get an email from this dentists tomorrow hopefully, they offer a free first visit so no point in not giving em a try.

Got my appointment in around 8 days. Seemed really friendly from the emails and they responded quickly. Hoping this temporary filling/dressing whatever it is lasts, but atleast the appointment is in a week from now and not a month hah. Also going private now rather than on the NHS as I can still claim back most of it.

So here's an update. A family member ended up having a conversation with the dentist that provided the previous work to which I gave my permission for them to do so. The information they were provided was much different to the information I was giving.

What I was told: £600 for root canal at a specialist in the same town or have the tooth out to which I felt I was being pressured into having the tooth out immediately. Reasons for not doing the root canal with the same dentist were that it was a tooth that would not effect me cosmetically.

What family member was told: Needs 2 more fillings, mouth doesn't open wide enough and as such the dentist cant get full access to do the root canal due to the chemicals involved being dangerous. I now have two more appointments booked for me. Which I will be cancelling tomorrow as I am deciding who does my dental work and where and this dentist is no longer trustworthy for me.

Im also being told that this dentist that I have a free appointment with will just want to get money from me as well. At the current stage im pretty pissed off and really just don't trust dentists in general. Surely this should be easy and you should be able to trust ANY dentist the same way you would if you went to a doctors, you expect a certain level of care and to be informed properly.

Why should I be fucked around when its something so important, dont know if im gonna go to the appointment I have at this different place but I certainly will be cancelling the two appointments booked for me to have work done.
