I am ready to find a new dentist--my current one is good, but doesn't do nitrous or anything stronger than valium (which doesn't work for me). In a town with >100 dentists, how do you find one that is good with high anxiety patients and is actually competent? I wrote to the state ADA--no response. I called the college of dentistry--they won't recommend anyone outside the college, and NO ONE there uses nitrous. IV sedation, yes, but I don't think I need that. Besides, I can't afford the hours that would take. My dentist referred me to someone else for a crown who used nitrous, but i didn't like him--he didn't let the nitrous work long enough to make the horrid shot tolerable, and his staff was rude and horrible. I have a couple recommendations from friends--do I call and set up an interview? Is there a listing somewhere? Start working through the phone book? It's kind of intimidating.
