Long-term care of dental implants

I had two dental implants a year ago after a nasty bout of infection and problems during the healing process. Now that I'm healed, is there any special advice you can offer to help make darned sure I don't have problems with these things again? Right now, I consider it a success, but it was an ordeal for me.

BUT implants are sensitive to perio disease so keep clean, continue to see dentist, and don't smoke
