I haven’t been to the dentist in about 3 years, and the last time I was at the dentist, I was informed I had 4 cavities and due to financial reasons I never got them filled. Now that I am financially able to go, I’ve still held back on scheduling an appointment solely out of fear. My teeth are not in pain other than from jaw clenching recently, but I still am terrified that I will have something extremely wrong with me. I don’t have anything visibly wrong with my teeth but I’m still very nervous

Hi I would go to see the dentist. It is up to you what happens. I understand the fear of going but different people fear different things when going to see a dentist. Do you know what your fear is. Some it is pain, or needles. If you can identify what it is that worries you I am sure the dentist will discuss this with you and put your mind at rest.
I would think that at a first visit they would have a look and tell you what treatment they consider you need. From that point it is up to you to say yes I would like the treatment or no thank you I need more time to get the courage to have the treatment.
The worry before seeing a dentist is often much worse than the visit. You will be able to discuss with the dentist the best way to have the treatment you need. If you feel comfortable and happy with your first visit all other visits will be much easier. The hardest step is making that call to book an appointment.
