I lost 26 teeth at the age of only 19..bad teeth runs in my family (my dad and brother both have dentures) I just feel embarrassed and terrified. Will I be able to eat ok with dentures? Can you ride horses with them in? (I'm a barrel racer) can people tell they are fake? I'm currently in the hospital healing because I also had a severe anaphylactic reaction during the surgery and stopped breathing requiring a ventilator and 7 hours of anesthesia

I had my teeth extracted last month and am slowly learning to eat with my dentures. Many many people have dentures and lead full, healthy lives. You will be able to resume your normal activities once you recover and get adjusted to this big change. It is a big change so be gentle with yourself and take your time in adjusting. My teeth now look much better than my natural teeth, and no one knows they're not my natural teeth.

I'm sorry you had a complication and are in the hospital, and I wish you a full and speedy recovery. You may want to look for an online support group that is specifically geared toward younger people with dentures. I wish dentists offered that kind of information for their patients, as it's more than just a physical adjustment we need to make. The psychological aspects can be more difficult, especially for people who are younger. Keep us posted with how you're doing please.

If you really look I can tell but from what I hear if the dentures are fitted properly you will not have problems eating or doing any activities.

I just wanted to update this thread. I'm now 16 post op and should be leaving the hospital pretty soon. I can talk normally again and drink. I'm getting my partials on Monday and I can't wait!! My gums are completely healed and the worst is behind
