Lost my frount teeth ina trampolining accident and now very scared!!! please help.

Hi,
Im new to forums so appologies in advance.
I Knocked my two frount teeth out in August messing around on a trampoline. I was in shock at the time and managed to let the maxio facial consultant stitch and wire them back in. ( I knocked them clean out root and all.)
The nhs offered to monitor the replaced teeth and said that if they failed then they could offer me a bridge but I would need to have a temporary denture. (Along with my fear of dentists also comes a fear of dentures.)
I then visited an amazing private dentist (who was afriend of a friend) He has offered me Implants. After doing a scan of my mouth and asking loads of questions. He said that it was my best option as my teeth were out too long and were not placed back in the exact same position. I had no back bite and my bottom teeth now rub on the top. At first he wanted me to be filmed having the operation as part of a training thing but unfortunatly later, he decided I wouldnt be fully healed on time. He has still offered to reduce the normal price of the implants to about £1000. I just need to pay for the sedation and bleaching of my exsisting teeth after I have healed. I would never be able to afford the implants without his help.
I now have an absscess and he is advising that I have my teeth removed and have a partial denture for 4 weeks so I heal better. It is a major thing for me and am having panic attacks thinking about it. I cant sleep or think about anything eles.
I know he is giving me the best advice but is there any other way? Could really strong antibiotics cure the abseces?
I have struggled with depression and anxiety since the accident having frequent flash backs and nightmares. Having my teeth fall out has always been one of my biggest fears and its happened.
I would love to have my teeth removed and the implants done at the same time but what if the infection infected the implant? What are my options if the implant fails?
Please if anybody could help and advise or even jus let me know your experiences I would be exstreamly greatful. Thanx. :-X

One option is to have a provisional (fake tooth) fabricated that fits the implant the day of the surgery. Not being familiar with your case, I can't say if thats possible but its an option thats available. Antibiotics will not get rid of the abscess, because the source of the infection will still be in your mouth (the tooth). If the implant fails your next best option is a bridge.

I hope that helps!

WHile each case is special but ingeneral you don't want to place the implants into an area that is infected. Decan is right that antibiotics will not eliminate the infection but they will reduce it significantly. If you want to reduce your risk of complications and have the best cosmetic result long term then take your time. Remove the teeth, bone graft the area allow to heal 8+ weeks. Reevaluate the area. Is there plenty of firm gum? Do you need more bone? If so graft the area more and allow it to heal. Place the implants and then restore.
Once the implants are there it is very difficult and may be impossible to change the surrounding bone and gums so carefully consider these things prior to implant placement.

How experienced is this UK private dentist at implants? Hope you are not his first guinea pig?

If you can afford to borrow to do anything in your life (car house holiday) you can opt to borrow to finance something as important as implants on a couple of teeth. Clearly your front teeth are very important to you and I am sorry to hear what happened.
You might have thought that accident would be one of those rare occasions when the NHS could do implants as a special case...no doubt wishful thinking on my part.

I'm not a dentist but agree that antibiotics are worth trying to alleviate your current immediate distress.

Hi,
Firstly thank you for your help. To answer your questions I am on my second course of antibiotics. My dentist is Roger Moore of gloucester. (he has a website) He is a bit of an expert on implants and trains other dentists, hence the need to film me. I know he is doing it for the best but I am really struggling with his diagnosis. I go in 2morro morning for my exstraction. I think I have plenty of bone and healthy gum but the infection could if left cause damage. The last xray he took was good and he didnt think the abscess was as bad as it was. I didnt even know I had an abscess when I went in. He took the xray last Friday after draining it but I had to go back to him on Monday as I started to get pain. He gave me a 3 day course of strong antibiotics on that friday and he has now given me a 7 day course of amoxicylin. Do you think he could be being over cautious? I am absolutly bricking it about 2morro and have been a dizzy wreck since Monday. I have driven the wrong way home and alsorts. lol. Thank you again[smiley=scared.gif] xxxxx

Hi,
Mangaged to have teeth removed thanks to Diazepan. In agony and state of pure fustration with the temporary denture I have no back bite and am unable to eat a thing. I cant even rest my jaw with it in.
The taste and extra saliva also makes me feel sick.
Has anybody had any deallings with the PCT?? I am going to try and claim back some of the cost of the implants and wondered if anybody had any advise?
Thanks. x

Don't hold your breath. It was wishful thinking on my part. Cancer patients might be the only ones where it sometimes happens from what I have heard.

Found this:

QUOTE:

Can I get any help for dental implants from the NHS?

The NHS doesn’t usually pay for dental implant treatment although there are exceptions to this. They will pay for implants if the patient shows that there is a clear medical need. In other words, they will not pay for something which you have chosen to have for lifestyle reasons.

If you require implants because of an accident or injury; a congenital defect or ill fitting dentures then the NHS may pay but you need to check this with your dentist.

The NHS had a limited budget and because so many demands are made on it they tend to prioritise treatment according to need and benefits. If you can demonstrate that this procedure will result in a major benefit for you then you may be one of the lucky ones!

If you can’t obtain NHS funding then your options include approaching a dental school to see if they will take you on as a patient, or going ‘private’.

In the latter case this means paying for the treatment yourself. If this is difficult then many clinics do have their own finance scheme which allows you to pay for your treatment via a series of instalments.

Another option is a specialist dental loan, which is comparable to other types of loan schemes. Speak to your dentist about this.' End Quote
