I have just had a scale and polish. The first in about 5 years and it went really well. I still have a couple of fillings to go and then maybe some cosmetic work, but I am getting through the list of jobs. This was my fourth appointment since the start of December and now I am so relaxed with her that we can actually chat about everyday stuff! For me, I have realised that the fear was really guilt and shame. I wasn’t so much scared of the procedures as of someone seeing inside my mouth. Giving up smoking has definitely dialled down the shame as well as doing wonders for my health and oral hygiene. My dentist has never criticised me or nagged at me, she has been kind and gentle, but not patronising. I’m very lucky!
