Hi, guys. Thanks for this forum!

My partner is having a dental marathon on Friday. Specifically, all but 3 of his upper teeth have shattered, and he's never had them properly taken care of. So, on Friday, he's having the remaining 3 teeth extracted; the roots of the other upper teeth dug out; an upper alveolectomy; and on the lowers, a root canal, 2 fillings, and full dual-quad deep cleaning. We're going the oral sedation/novocaine route, so he should be fine tolerating the procedures themselves.

Here is the question: his dentist says he shouldn't need any pain meds afterwards, that OTC meds (EXCEPT for aspirin, due to blood-thinning issues) should be fine. Now I'm sure it's my own extreme dental phobias being projected onto him and his marathon--but not giving some sort of Rx for pain meds doesn't sound like a good pain management plan. Could one or more of you comment on that? And could you give me any idea what to expect over the weekend (and next week) during his recovery?

Thanks!

Sounds like a perfectly sensible pain management plan. Stronger than OTC pain meds have very little use in dentistry.
