It hurts pretty badly in my jaw when I open my mouth. What is the best remedy for this and should I avoid talking until the pain subsides?

Sometimes an ice pack helps, sometimes a bit of mild heat in the jaw joint area can help. Try one and if that doesn't help, try the other.
