:scared: Hi there Iam new to this site and am glad I found it. I know I need to see a dentist but am really scared., of what they will say I know I need a couple of teeth removed but cannot stand the thought of having things put in my mouth as I gag when I brush my teeth. Please if anyone knows of any where in the medway/kent area I would be grateful, it might even stop my partner from telling me i'm being stupid as he cant seem to understand my fear!!!
As my front teeth need looking at and he tells me I need to get it sorted as he does not want to go out with me as people look at me funny, even though nobody I talk to seems to notice unless I tell them.
So any help would be appreciated. I've tried the BDA but cannot ring up myself to ask questions. Need to find somewhere, somebody can highly recommend who has been through what I am going through!
Thanks for reading this and the help

Re: Find me a dentist. PLEASE!!

Geography isn't exactly my best subject, so I don't even know where you live, but under this "South East" section I saw several dentists from Kent. Maybe you should read those recommendations first. Good luck to your journey, you deserve a smile and your tooth problems can be sorted out, one way or another.:hug2:

I always thought this one sounded good: https://hospitallane.com

You are also within striking distance of London:https://www.dentalfearcentral.org/forum/forums/london.29/

These are private practices... if you are limited to NHS then you can contact your local PCT for a list of dentists taking on new NHS patients or search on the BDA website (private and NHS) and put in your postcode to locate dentists in your area who list anxious patients as one of their interests.
Good luck :grouphug:

Hiya your quite close to Thamesmead only around 30 mins or so up the A2 so try Raj Patel at Gallions reach dental centre. He's great and very sympathetic cant reccommend him highly enough tell him dave sent you (lorna's husband) good luck

I'm living in SE18 area, and I hadn't seen a dentist in 15+ years. I have a stack of broken teeth, need a bunch of fillings, a possible root filling, veneers for damaged front teeth (old childhood accident), braces and wisdom tooth extraction for impacted and partially impacted teeth. I finally lived up to the New Years resolution I've been making every year now for the past 10 years, and made an appointment to see a dentist in Woolwich.

They're the Woowich Dental Practice on Woolwich New Street, they're accepting NHS patients, and, having seen a dental surgeon in theUS, supposed home of the perfect smile and perfect dentists, on a consult only basis as a private patient, seeing this dentist was so much less stressful than seeing the specialist in the US. I can happily say that so many of my fears were eased during the 10 minute consult with this dentist. She checked all my teeth, explained everything in plain English to me, all the time telling me that things weren't nearly as bad as I expected, and told me that I needed a little work done for now, didn't give me a huge list of work to be done that would have scared me off completely, and went out of her way to actually make a follow up appointment for me this Friday to start treatment, one tooth at a time, so I didn't have the option of just walking straight past the desk and never looking back which has happened so many times.
I know it's a bit of a hike to Woolwich from Kent, but this dentist just needed to be mentioned and you won't regret making the journey if she can put you at ease too. I wholeheartedly recommend this practice to any phobic patient. I went from tears to smiles within 10 minutes with her and I'm looking forward to having a mouth full of teeth that I don't have to worry about a lot sooner than I expected to be done with my treatment!
Oh, just as a side note, she will refer you to a specialist who will do extractions under IV sedation, even as an NHS patient. That might help with the sensitive gag reflex. I'm OK with front teeth, but I gag when anything touches my tongue at the back, so she was very careful not to put too many instruments in my mouth, showed me everything she was going to use and took everything one step at a time.
