OK, so I had my second molar (#15) pulled in January. Long story, had a lot of problems with it, but it's gone now. My wisdom teeth are gone as well. Ever since, #14 is driving me nuts. It feels like there's this huge boulder in my mouth. My tongue rubs against it in a weird way and it's really sore in the spot that's getting rubbed. Plus it just feels weird the way it hits my cheek. Overall, it's just very very uncomfortable and annoying. My dentist said that was normal and it would take about 2 weeks to get used to it. It's been over 9 months now and I'm no more used to it today than I was in January. It's driving me crazy. So, now I'm considering getting an implant thinking that will solve the problem. Can they do mini implants on molars or do I have to get a full-fledged implant?

Mini implants are typically used to secure dentures, especially lower dentures. They're not really suitable for replacing missing molars. So you'd probably have to get a "full-fledged" implant. Unfortunately, they are more expensive than minis. I would suggest finding a dentist who specialises in implants, and to ask for their experience and success rate with the type of tooth you're wishing to replace :).

I did find a place that does implants exclusively. And, it's also a "one stop" place. They do everything from start to finish. They have dentists, oral surgeons, and prosthodontists on hand to handle the entire process from implant to setting the crown. They do free consultations with a 360 x-ray too so I thought I had nothing to lose by going. Plus, their oral surgeon is also on staff at the Barrow Neurological Institute in their craniofacial department. Barrow seems to be pretty high up on the good reputation scale so that makes me feel more secure that they'll do a good job. I will ask them what their failure rate is, though. In fact, I have a lot of questions LOL! And, they do in-house financing, which is hard to find.
